The Jewish app blocker
that puts prayer first.

Torah Lock is a Jewish screen time app that locks your most distracting apps each morning until you complete a short prayer flow — the Shema and personalized Tehillim (Psalms). It takes under 5 minutes, then everything unlocks and your day starts on your terms. If you have looked for an app blocker for prayer, or a Jewish app blocker that turns the morning scroll into a moment of intention, this is the page that explains exactly how it works. Free to download on iPhone, with an optional paid subscription.

What Torah Lock does

An app blocker built for prayer.

Shema and Tehillim morning flow

Each morning begins with the Shema, the foundational declaration of Jewish faith, followed by personalized Tehillim (Psalms). It is one short, deliberate moment of prayer that comes before the noise of the day begins. Instead of opening your phone to a feed, you open it to a few sacred words. The whole flow takes under five minutes, and then your apps unlock so you can move into the rest of your morning.

5:30 AM enforcement window

From 5:30 AM, Torah Lock blocks the distracting apps you choose until you finish your prayer flow. You decide which apps belong behind the gate, whether that is social media, news, or games. No willpower required in the moment — the gate simply waits, and the apps stay locked until prayer is complete. It is screen time enforcement with a purpose behind it.

Shabbat-aware blocking

Torah Lock automatically detects Shabbat and Jewish holidays based on your location using the Hebcal API. There is no app blocking on holy days, so the app never gets in the way of how you keep them, and your streak is preserved while you rest. The Jewish calendar is built into the app, not bolted on as an afterthought.

Streak tracking

Build a consistent habit of daily prayer. Your streak grows with every morning you complete, helping intention become a lasting part of your routine.

Personalized psalms by mood

Choose where you are on a nine-state grid of mood and spiritual state, and Torah Lock draws Tehillim from a curated library of psalm segments to match the day you are in. Some mornings call for words of trust, others for comfort or gratitude. The psalms meet you where you are, so the prayer never feels generic or repeated by rote.

Fully on-device privacy

Enforcement runs entirely on your iPhone through Apple’s Screen Time, FamilyControls, and ManagedSettings frameworks. Torah Lock never collects or transmits which apps you use. Analytics are anonymous through PostHog, and optional city-level location is used only to calculate Shabbat times. Your phone, and what is on it, stays private.
